Famed singer Alicia Keys wore a gown designed by him for the Barack Obama Presidential Inauguration on January 21, 2013. Of course we are talking about Michael Kors and his designs. Born on August 9, 1959 in Long Island, New York as Karl Anderson Jr., his mother, a former model told him that he can change his name since she got remarried to Bill Kors. At the age of five he changed his name to Michael David Kors. He studied fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

In 1981, he launched Michael Kors collection of women’s wear for Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, and other high end stores. Later he designed ready-to-wear cloths for women for French designer Celine. Kors men’s wear line was introduced in 2002. He was awarded the 2003 CFDA award for menswear designer of the year. In 2013, he made to The Time 100 most influential people of the world list. He is best known for his classic collection for women. Now his clothing collection includes handbags, shoes, purses, watches and perfumes
